In Revit one has to choose between type or instance parameters. When using instance parameters, one can assign a default value per type. But once that value gets modified inside a project, the end user of the family has no idea what the original default value for the instance parameter for that particular type was. He could use the command 'Create similar' (a work-around) but there is a more straightforward approach.
Create 4 parameters:
- instance parameter -> initially the default value (for that particular type) but this can be changed inside the project without ever having to worry about losing the initial default.
- type parameter -> the default value for that particular type
- type/instance parameter -> the actual value (formula -> see snapshot)
- instance parameter yes/no -> defines whether the type or instance value of the parameter is used.
